ScanTrainer supports another successful SonoSlam

It was great to support another SonoSlam ultrasound skills tournament with our ScanTrainer Transvaginal Simulators (TVS) at this year’s AIUM Annual Convention (The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine) in New York.

The annual competition saw 72 students in 24 teams from 21 US medical school emergency medicine programs enter a head-to-head battle to win the top prize of a Butterfly IQ personal ultrasound machine for their school.

In round-robin style, each team had to demonstrate their ultrasound skills across a variety of ultrasound disciplines, including cardiac, MSK and OBGYN, with ScanTrainer TVS taking on the role of testing OBGYN transvaginal ultrasound scanning skills.

Using our real-feel simulators the teams were tested on their ability to identity and measure normal intrauterine pregnancy, fetal cardiac activity and fetal viability as well as recognise key pathologies such as ectopic pregnancy, threatened abortion and corpus luteal cysts.

Rachel Liu, Director of Point-of-Care Ultrasound Education at the Yale School of Medicine, from SonoSlam’s organising faculty, commented:

“At Yale, we have been a ScanTrainer customer for some years, using the TVS system as part of our ultrasound training for our emergency medicine residency program. We were delighted to have MedaPhor on board during SonoSlam. The teams loved using the systems, no other simulator is able to teach and test transvaginal skills quite like ScanTrainer.”
